Holiday Inspiration
| November 17, 2011 | Posted by Kate under crafts, hearthcraft, holidays, home, sewing |
Today, I looked at my calendar on the wall, and realized it was still set to October, but already, it’s the 17th of November. Who stole the first half of November?! Where did it go? Why is Thanksgiving next week? How is it possible that in 2 weeks, it’ll be December 1st and I need… more
Sudden motherhood
| November 10, 2011 | Posted by Kate under children, family, fostering, hearthcraft |
A lot of people can say they had an unexpected baby – but most of them still have close to nine months to prepare. Me? I wound up with a 4 month old baby Amy* on about a week’s notice in April. Almost overnight, life became a chaotic whirlwind of bottles, rocking chairs, nightly swaddling,… more
My Secret Garden
| April 1, 2011 | Posted by Kate under gardening, hearthcraft |
Okay, not really a secret, but it is behind closed doors! I’ve started a bunch of seeds for my garden this year, and because the cats love fresh greens (crazy veggie-eating carnivores!) I’ve hidden them in a spare room and shut the door to keep the beasts out! I’m hoping they survive until I plant… more

Please, someone answer this question: What happened to March? How did we arrive at the 31st when I still feel stuck back at the beginning of the month? Who said this was okay? Time sure flies when we’re busy. And busy I’ve been! I’ve been working on a couple special projects for a friend as… more

I’m a big fan of reusable bags for shopping, especially grocery shopping. They are, of course, environmentally friendly, but I confess, that alone probably wouldn’t convince me to use them. I don’t care to sacrifice money, comfort, or convenience solely for the environment – to use an environmentally friendly product, it has to meet other… more
21.5 Hours – Unplugged
| March 6, 2011 | Posted by Kate under daily life, hearthcraft |
So, I picked up the idea to unplug myself from the Sabbath Manifesto, a site dedicated to a weekly day of rest. The idea was to – in old Jewish sabbath style – unplug myself from television, the phone, the internet, commerce, etc. The site has several guidelines to follow, but they are only that… more
100 Things
| March 5, 2011 | Posted by Kate under 100 Things, hearthcraft |
As I mentioned, I’ve been filling out the Goddess Guide Workbook 2011, and one of the projects in there is to create a list of 100 Things to Do in 2011. I’ve done a 101 Things in 1001 Days list, but this is more short term, and in my mind, is meant to be more… more
Changes
| March 4, 2011 | Posted by Kate under cats, daily life, dog, fish, fostering, hearthcraft, tarot |
2011 is looking up to be a year of change. Already, I’ve moved from my tiny 2 bedroom condo into a huge and spacious 4 bedroom home in another part of the city. I have almost a third of an acre, and although I can’t have chickens or goats (pity) I can plant trees… more
