Holiday Inspiration
| November 17, 2011 | Posted by Kate under crafts, hearthcraft, holidays, home, sewing |
Today, I looked at my calendar on the wall, and realized it was still set to October, but already, it’s the 17th of November. Who stole the first half of November?! Where did it go? Why is Thanksgiving next week? How is it possible that in 2 weeks, it’ll be December 1st and I need… more
Reusable Bags

I’m a big fan of reusable bags for shopping, especially grocery shopping. They are, of course, environmentally friendly, but I confess, that alone probably wouldn’t convince me to use them. I don’t care to sacrifice money, comfort, or convenience solely for the environment – to use an environmentally friendly product, it has to meet other… more
Machine Embroidery

Meet my machine. ” Five years ago, my mother bought a new sewing/embroidery machine, and passed her old one on to me to replace the aging 1980s style machine I’d been using. She’s a Babylock Ellure, a hardworking sewing/embroidery combo unit with a history of sewing well despite a few maddening quirks and irritations. As… more

I started this quilt about a year ago, finishing up one embroidered panel before I quit for the spring and summer. Now I’m back at it, starting on panel 2! The finished panel: And the new panel I traced: Then I finished up this languishing Santa Claus table runner, which shows off my HORRIBLE machine… more
O Towering Tree…
| November 24, 2010 | Posted by Kate under crafts, holidays, quilting, sewing |
I made this a few days ago from a kit I bought. I have enough fabric for at least one if not two more, but it became such a pain toward the end I think I’ll wait until next year. more
Last night’s project…

I made this last night. The fabric is from Joann’s: Fabric Central Neutral Mediterranean. I used one jelly roll and somewhat shy of a yard of the matching backing fabric, which comes with 20 strips. I just cut the strips in half, and sewed them together, directly onto the backing/batting, so it was quilted as… more

Lately, you can just call me Lazy Sue. Or lazy Kate, I should say. Lazy Sue was the name of one of my chickens, back when I had them, and she was pretty lazy. Of course, she was blinded by her own feathers, and I have to say, that’d make me lazy too. It wasn’t… more
Fresh and Pretty

You’ll notice I changed themes. I did this because though I loved the last theme very much, the text column was too skinny for the medium photo resolution on Flickr… meaning, I had to manually resize all my photos to something bizarre, like 425×318. Not cool. So I switched it. This theme isn’t my favorite,… more
Crazy Blocks & Blurry Spring!
| April 3, 2010 | Posted by Kate under crafts, quilting, sewing |
Look! A blurry picture of a table-runner in-progress! My camera didn’t focus right. Looked great on my screen. Not so great when enlarged. But that’s too bad – this is all you get, at least until I lay it out for quilting it. Because I actually did it all WRONG, and had to rip out… more
